Coleman Vision is located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Dr. Coleman is a leader in the field of laser vision correction. He performed the first FDA approved laser procedure in New Mexico to correct nearsightedness on June 14th, 1996.
Dr. Coleman graduated from Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. and completed advanced, specialized training in surgery of the eye at St. Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center in New York City, the primary teaching institution for New York Medical College. He is among the handful of surgeons in the country selected to teach FDA certification courses to other doctors on the VISX STAR laser platform. Dr. Coleman has been the Principal Investigator on 19 FDA clinical trials evaluating laser profiles, has written extensively on laser-related topics, and frequently makes presentations both nationally and internationally regarding all areas of LASIK.
While serving four years as a flight surgeon in Europe, Dr. Coleman was the recipient of 10 prestigious honors including the Bronze Star and Air Medal for flying in combat. He worked directly with the Ophthalmologic Consultant to the Surgeon General on an Army-wide investigation into the use of contact lenses by nearsighted pilots flying Apache attack helicopters. Dr. Coleman has delivered medical care in such diverse destinations as Thailand and Cambodia and performed eye surgery at the world’s largest non-profit hospital, the Aravind Eye Hospital, located in southern India.
Dr. Coleman performs individualized wavefront-guided LASIK using the iLASIK™ laser suite. This platform combines the VISX STAR S4™ excimer laser using Iris Recognition and 3-dimensional eye-tracking technology with the 150 kHZ iFS™ femtosecond flap maker. Since May of 2002 Dr. Coleman has been part of on-going FDA evaluations of wavefront-guided laser profiles along with such world-renowned eye institutions as Johns Hopkins, the University of Miami, and Baylor University. He was instrumental in gaining the initial FDA approval for this technology.
Dr. Coleman is a diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology, a fellow in the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and a founding member of the American-European Congress of Ophthalmic Surgery.
